Australia has a world-class healthcare system that includes both public and private services. For overseas visitors and students, having health cover is often mandatory to ensure access to affordable medical treatment while in Australia. Two main types of health cover are specifically designed for people from overseas: Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and Overseas Visitor Health Cover (OVHC).

OSHC

In Australia, Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is a mandatory requirement of your student visa unless an exception applies. You must have OSHC for the entire time you are studying here. OSHC helps you easily access medical services while you are in Australia – so you can focus on your studies and enjoying your time here.

To meet the student visa requirements and eligibility for OSHC the Australian Government requires that you have continuous OSHC for the entire length of your stay in Australia.

OVHC

Overseas Visitor Health Cover (OVHC) is health insurance for international visitors visiting or working in Australia on a temporary visa. OVHC is available for people travelling to Australia on holidays, visiting relatives, or for those who are working on a temporary basis.
